Karuna means compassion. All healing starts with compassion. Practicing yoga with compassion means being aware of your body and its needs, while engaging in gentle extensions of your body’s ability to develop strength, flexibility and balance. Regular yoga practices creates the energetic benefits that can flow into other aspects of your life.

These are small classes designed to respond to the needs and energy of the people in the room. These classes are designed for beginner practitioners, particularly those who would like to explore yoga as a mechanism for reducing stress in the body and responding to challenges we face in the world. Experienced practitioners are also welcome, and the class will be adapted to the needs of those in the room.

No bookings necessary but please text 0418 316 590 so that I know you are coming and can welcome you. Please note as these are small classes, if you don’t message me I can’t guarantee your place.

ACT and yoga for anxiety and depression group therapy.

This eight week course is based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, an evidence-based therapy that helps you to “unhook” from unhelpful thoughts and behaviours and build fulfillment through values-based actions. This group therapy will supplement the ACT processes with gentle yoga practice that is designed to unlock depression and anxiety symptoms in your body. The therapy will also build understanding of the relationship between physiology and psychology. The combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy with gentle yoga practice, will offer you exercises and skills to begin or continue your healing journey with karuna (compassion).

The ACT component of the group therapy will qualify as eight sessions under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. You will need to check with your GP whether you are eligible for a MHTP, and, if so, ask them to send a referral to my clinical psychology practice at reception(at)kimina.com. Most MHTPs entitle you to 10 group sessions on top of your 10 individual sessions. (Please note, medicare rebates are only payable for the sessions you attend.) There will be a maximum of 6 people in each group.

My yoga journey

Yoga has been an important part of my own personal healing from trauma and distress. Through my 20 years of yoga practice, I have learned to connect with my body, understand my mind, and grow in benevolence of spirit. After 500 hours of teacher training, combined with my practice as a clinical psychologist, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring these two streams of wisdom together, in a healing space.

I have a Doctor of Psychology (Clinical) and am a registered Level 1 teacher at Yoga Australia. I have a current Apply First Aid certificate, along with professional indemnity insurance for both yoga teaching and my clinical psychology practice.

I look forward to welcoming you at the beautiful yoga studio at Be Well.
